Whenever we celebrate Christmas when Santa doesn't come, it is the "pretend" Christmas. This year, the pretend Christmas was with the Gundens, at the lake, on New Year's Day. These 3 Amigos have such a great time together!
The weather was gorgeous, sunny, and just a bit cool. We got out the ping pong table, which has been in the garage for several years, and actually found some time to play! We found out the we have some closet ping pong players in the family...
One of the highlights of our time was the 2nd annual Christmas show, produced by Mimi and Papa. They had been practicing in secret ever since Mimi and Papa arrived the first week of December. The kids we SO excited, and a bit nervous. That morning, Luka actually started having some real anxiety over doing the show. With a bit more practice and some convincing from Mimi, he did a great job!
The costumes were SO creative. Evidentally, the boys required a fair amount of convincing to put the bows on. Mimi finally made them realize that the bows were for the presents, not as in "girl" bows. They seemed to be fine after that.
Luka sang the 12 Days of Christmas, in Spanish. I'm not sure Mimi and Papa even realized that he did number 9 twice, but those of us that at least know how to count to 10 in Spanish got a good chuckle out of that (as if the song isn't long enough already.)
TJ read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' and did a fine job after all his practicing. (Though his present costume was so big he could hardly hold his paper to read it.) Cute story about TJ: Mimi was singing a Christmas Carol at church, and she was singing alto. TJ looked up and said "Mimi, you're not singing the right notes." She started singing the melody, and he thought it sounded much better after that. Well, at least he has an ear for music!"
Norah sang "I'm a Little Ornament." Precious, and I wish I could remember the words. She added in a few impromptu songs on her own that weren't on the program (Twinkle Twinkle and The Itsy Bitsy Spider." She wanted to do the show all over again as soon as it was finished.
