Butterfly Birthday

Mikayla was so fortunate to have both sets of grandparents and my sister's family to celebrate her 2nd birthday.  When Grandma and Grandpa Schmucker called to say they wanted to come her birthday weekend, we quickly changed plans and moved her party to the lake on January 27, so that everyone could attend.  Thanks to Mimi and Papa for hosting at the last minute! I hadn't yet bought anything for the party, so I got to go shopping all day Saturday to throw together the butterfly birthday.  Plus, I dug through the 2T summer clothes, and even found a butterfly dress in the stash of hand-me-downs!

Mikayla really seemed to enjoy the party.  By the end of the day, she certainly learned what butterflies were, and she thoroughly enjoyed her cake, eating every bite.  A couple days prior we had started singing the song "Happy Birthday" and she quickly learned to join in each time on "to you!" She somehow even knew to blow out the candle on her cupcake, and patiently waited to do so while everyone was singing.

 Waiting...

 anticipating...

 blowing...

 enjoying...

 lip smacking!

As for the gifts, she definitely knows that under all the wrapping, there is a surprise.  She was not let down with her new talking Elmo book, her light up pink heart pillow, her new pink shirt, and her new fluffy pink bear.  (Yes, there is a lot of pink with this girl!)

The weather was gorgeous, for a January day, so we took advantage and spent most of the day outdoors, riding bikes, playing tag in the grass, and enjoying the cook-out.

I also took a craft to help occupy the kids, which was decorating butterflies.  All the adults and the kids joined in to make a few unique butterflies, which are now hanging in her room.  So cute!

Later on in the day, every time I asked her about her party, Mikayla would quickly reply "Cehke! Cheke!" (Cake!) And she had a big smile on her face.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG 2 YEAR OLD SWEET PEA!
