Things you love:
- "Elmo" At about 8:00 each morning, you ask for Elmo, who unfortunately doesn't come on until 9:45, but you figure it is worth a shot. This household does not yet have DVR, unfortunately for you.
- "Teewee" (TV) - in general, your attention span for TV is remarkable for your age. Of course, this isn't necessarily a good thing, but it sure does come in handy when mom has a few things to do. You were completely mesmerized and didn't move during the entire halftime show when Beyonce performed at the Super Bowl. You know how to point the remote at the TV and turn it on!
- "Books" - You seem to enjoy books that are way above your level of comprehension. I wish I knew how much you actually understood. You patiently sit through an entire book without moving, and then quickly ask for more when it is over. You love to sleep with a stack of books piled in your bed. You "read" books to yourself on the couch while your brothers are reading. You read while in the stroller. You are very entertained in the car with a book on your lap. You love story time at the library and at Barnes and Noble each week and start yelling "Dis! Dis!" when we pull into the parking lot, pointing to the building, so eager to go.
- Biking - You love to ride on the bike and take your brothers to school. Even if you have just crawled out of bed, and your diaper hasn't been changed and you haven't had breakfast, you say "bike, bike" and we know that you are ready to go.
- Trampoline - You love to jump on the trampoline, for a LONG time. You ask to "yump, yump" (jump). While Luka gets a bit rough, TJ is a great jumping mate, and you will happily stay on the trampoline with TJ in charge. One day I came out to find you both lying on your backs, observing the clouds in the sky, but staying down because otherwise the "monsters will get us."
- We try to take a weekly trip to the Woodland's Children's Museum. You really look forward to these trips, and are so content to explore and discover all the cool activities and new art projects. You are so proud to come home and show your art projects to everyone in the family.
- Park and stroller rides -you are always game and never turn down a trip to the park. You are a climber; more so than your brothers ever were. You fall down, you cry, and then you start over again to prove to yourself that you can do it. I love your determination and perseverance!
- Music - you love music! You love to sing, you love to dance, and you love to listen to music. It almost always calms you down no matter your mood. It is a quick cure for fussiness in the car. You listen to it every night before bed. Your favorite songs right now are the cute toddler songs with motions, and you can do them almost all by yourself: Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Head and Shoulders. Not sure how many times I have sung those songs in the last 3 months!
As is normal for a 2 year old, you have opinions, especially about food. You still only choose to eat exactly what you want to eat. Now, however, you do not get dessert unless you have eaten the very small amount of food we have put on your plate. When you say you are "done," you mean it. Don't even try to offer one more bite. You LOVE snacks. By your definition, snacks do not mean fruit or yogurt. It means something from the pantry, like graham crackers, cheerios, or granola. You point to the pantry, say "nack" and then proceed to get a "pup" (cup) out of the bin to hold your snack. You have even figured out that you can move a chair over to the pantry to get a better view of all the options!
The other day, you wanted to play with your glass bottle. I told you to only play on the carpet. After a few minutes, you gently set your bottle down on the tile floor, testing me. When I said I would take the bottle, you promptly threw it on the tile floor and it shattered to pieces.
Your language has exploded, and you are communicating so well now that others, not just your parents, can understand your intentions. A few examples:
- Mimi had just gotten out of the shower, and you pointed and said, "gasses." Mimi did not have her glasses on yet, and you were pointing that out!
- The book "Old Hat New Hat" has a scratchy hat in it. You always point to the hat, then point to your face, and say "Dada," meaning, Daddy has a scratchy face too.
- You jump off the bottom step saying, "Set...Doe!" (Ready, set, go!)
- You came down the stairs with a Santa hat on and some retro glasses. You said, "Mama, see! Ho, ho, ho!"
Some words you only say in Spanish: agua (water) mas (more). You can definitely understand toddler Spanish, thanks to Regina, and we are so grateful!
You love your brothers! When we got home from Chicago last night, you could not wait to give them hugs. When Daddy and I were occupied today, you told TJ to "hole-du" (hold you) and you allowed him to pick you up and give you some love. You make sure to say goodnight to everyone before going to bed, and you love when TJ crawls into your crib and sings a few songs to you to tuck you in. TJ loves to get you up in the morning, and so do you. He happily picks you up out of your crib, and you come down the stairs together, ready to start the day.
A few notes:
-napping 2-3 hours per day
-missing 4 teeth on the top and two on the bottom
-sleeping at night from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
-very picky and inconsistent eater
