School Year-End

The month of May always just seems so crazy.  Remind me next year not to sign the kids up for anything extra.  For some reason this year, we thought Mikayla just had to get in 8 swimming lessons prior to summer starting.  (Turns out that while she most likely won't be joining swim team next summer, she did actually develop a much better tolerance for the water in just a short time and we think we can now help her learn to swim better this summer.)  And TJ had swim team, and can go to practice 5 days a week plus swim meet on Saturday.  And all the year-end school shows plus a Rock Band Academy concert.  Geesh.  All this on top of drum and piano lessons and gymnastics once a week.  Oh my.

Rock Band Concert:
Every Saturday, the boys practiced with their band and local instructors.  They actually had a pretty good time!  I've come to the obvious realization that being in a band is one of the best team sports you can participate in.  (Compare to swimming, for example...the term "swim team" kinda makes me chuckle...you can't get much more individual than swimming.)  So, while the instructors had to put up a bit with two brothers making up 50% of the band, they pulled it off and performed at a local coffee shop on Mother's Day.  They seemed to enjoy it with friends and family in the audience and decided to sign up again for summer camp.

School Programs:
TJ's 2nd grade program was called "Arf."  Each class dressed up as a different dog, so TJ was a Scottie.  "Fight Fair" is the song in the video.  While Mikayla was a mess at the show, she came home singing that song all evening.

Luka, for his part, had a little performance at school one evening.  He was quite serious about the whole thing and was eager to show his singing voice.  He can definitely carry a tune; only problem was, all their songs were sung in such a high key (even for the kids) that he was complaining that his throat hurt for quite some time!

Mikayla, for her part in the year-end festivities, had quite a show as well.   The teachers confirmed with me on several occasions that she would be there, and I understand now why they asked.  She was definitely one of the kids in the front moving the most (in blue).  The huge crowd did not seem to phase her one bit.  Shake it girl!
