Blaze

Hello Blaze!  This little chocolate Schnauzer has found a home in the right place.  Ever since Saxon, and even before, the kids had been asking for a "real" dog.  Saxon was more like a cat...creeping away at any minute, and only wanting an occasional back scratch.  We know what they meant!  They wanted a dog who would actually play fetch, cuddle, and chase them around the house.  Well, now they have it.

Scott started getting on Craig's lit every morning to scope out the availability.  He kept sending me these pictures of Schnauzers looking haggard and scruffy and saying "there just isn't much out there." But we just had to wait for the right one to come along.

So, one Tuesday morning, Scott sent me the ad to this little guy, and after looking at so many, I literally got chills.  We made arrangements for a visit and possible purchase, and well, the rest is history.  We loaded up the entire family, including Grandpa and Grandma, and headed to Pearland.  There were two 7 1/2 week old males in the litter, and we had the pick.  While they both turned over on their backs when we turned them over, this little guy literally went limp.  Scott and looked at each other gave the nod. This is exactly how Chilli had been as a pup, so that is what we were going for.  The kids were in seventh heaven.  We had to take turns switching him to a different lap every 15 minutes on the 1 1/2 hour drive home.

We were all so ready for this little addition...and yes, me too!  Just like with a baby, my mornings have changed.  He is going through the night just fine, but by 6:00 a.m. he will wake up the house with his crying to go outside, so I am definitely the one to get up and take care of that because the last thing I want is my household to get up at 6:00 when I am planning on having them sleep until 9:00!  As I type, he is running around with his toys...

The kids have all been extremely responsible and willing to help.  And yes, in just 3 weeks he has already been stepped on, shut in a door, dropped out of a wagon, kicked, and squeezed.  The boys take very good care of him, and in the beginning even took him out in the middle of the night if he was crying.  Mikayla, for her part, carries him around like a doll, and can actually be pretty rough.  Blaze is almost too tolerant!  Goods lessons in responsibility all around.

Oh and how did he get his name?  We all had a bunch of ideas, of course.  It was a pretty democratic process, but flames seem to be a part of this family.  They are all over the garage, on our bikes, hats, gloves, etc.  So, Blaze seemed a viable option, and everyone agreed to it!  I'm already calling him "Blazie" since that is Mikayla's name for him...
