What Are the Odds?

Scott began working for Continental (Continental Express in actuality) in January of 1998, and I began working at Hewitt Associates in June of 1998. What are the odds that we would both still both working for those same companies 12 years later? (Well...sort of...)

Contintental officially merged with United Airlines on October 1, and Hewitt was officially acquired/merged with Aon Consulting on October 1. Aon Completes Merger with Hewitt We both received the anticipated "welcome to our company" letter in our email inboxes the same day. Now really, what are the odds that both of our companies in the same year, the same month, and same day are officially changing hands?


While the outlook in terms of job stability looks reasonable for both of us, there changes in benefits, work environments, and management announced what feels like daily, and we certainly expect that to continue in the next few months and even the next year.

So, while we monitor and track these changes closely, we also know it is all largely out of our control. We continue to focus on those things that we can personally impact, like continuing to do a good job at work, and focusing our efforts on our expanding family. We are trying to save the stress for things like child-care decisions and eating a healthy meal...for now, at least, we'll take each day at a time and remember to live in the moment. Carpe Diem!
