TJ and Luka are currently swimming on their first club swim team for April, May, and June. We originally enrolled them not knowing if we would do all the meets or not, but TJ seems to be finally getting in the groove. We like it because they get what amounts to a swim lesson 4 times per week, with endurance work along with it. They can go up to 4 nights a week, and you can pick and choose which nights you go, so you are never locked in to anything. Also, they swim at the world class Natatorium, which is huge and thrilling and overwhelming all at the same time.
The meets are less than thrilling. I never said that I'd choose to have a swimmer, but if swimming is their "thing" than I would support it, because it is such a great form of exercise. But I tell you, getting up at 6:00 on a Saturday, and then not getting home until 2:00 is not exactly how I'd choose to spend my Saturday. What happened to the soccer game that starts at 9:00 and end at 9:45? Oh yeah....here is what happened!
Well, nonetheless, TJ especially has really seemed to pick it up and has learned the fly, breast, back, and free. His favorite is the fly, which means we get to stay until event #60 which hits at about noon! Unfortunately, he was so disappointed last time because his goggles fell off when he "dove" in. He couldn't see. Bless his little heart, he never gave up the entire way, but he came in dead last, and the whole place clapped for him when he finally made it. He was in tears...but it was a great lesson in perseverance.
Luka is not loving swimming, but is hanging in there. He swims the free and is working on the others. One of his good buddies is swimming too, so that definitely helps. And, as seen in the pictures here, they will continue to work on their diving!
