Usually, there is a parade where everyone decorates their golf carts, scooters, etc. It was cancelled the last few years, so this year, the neighborhood kids decided to put one on for themselves. They hung a few signs around the neighborhood, but unfortunately, only two entries made an appearance at 10:00 a.m. So, it was rescheduled to 5:00. Fortunately, it was a much better success in the evening. All the kids got to walk in the parade or ride the cart. Who needs the big Woodlands parade??
We've been making memories each summer with the neighbors, Staci, Dan, Preston, and Peyton Richards. The kids have actually grown up together, and it's like the neighbors we don't have in the Woodlands. The kids are back and forth all the time, hanging out, running around, and just enjoying their freedom. Dan and Scott usually spend a good portion of the day on "projects." Definitely more enjoyable when you can work on the projects together and share your tools. I think the duct tape came out once or twice this particular weekend.
Also this year, who else but the Rutledges joined in the fun? Over all these years, they had never made it to the lake, so thought it was about time now that they are back in Texas. Ian, their 8 year old, evidently thought they were all cousins. How appropriate!
I wish I had a picture, but Mikayla has a new found freedom since she now swims with floaties or a life jacket. (Honestly, mom and dad have new freedom too!) We could definitely not get her out of the water, and now she can hang with the big kids! She is taking baby steps, but is finally going under the water and blowing bubbles. Maybe just maybe she will start swimming without floaties one of these days.
Also for the first time, we got out some water skis. Miko got up after just a few tries, and TJ was oh-so-close, but hopefully sooner than later he'll be outta that water and skimmin' the surface!
