Well, I think we've finally reached the point where it is once again fun for everyone, especially with good friends. So, we set off for Stephen F. Austin state park with 3 other families. We shared our campsite with Karin and Bart and their kids, who have become dear life-long friends in a very short period of time. (Hopefully that feeling is mutual!)
We set up our 12 person tent, put up the room divider for our two families. We had no problem pretending we were in our own separate spaces. Bas and TJ slept on their own in the pup tent which they thought was pretty cool.
The best thing about this park in particular were the hiking and biking trails. The boys pretty quickly figured out their way around and had a great time exploring both nature and their independence. Mikayla had a ball on the trails on her bike, and we just can't believe how she can make that little 12" bike go. Another highlight was when Scott took the boys on a midnight ride on super dark trails...kinda freaky but they all came back with huge smiles. Mikayla and Simone play really well together and found their own creative activities as well.
TJ and Bas decided to see how many jumps in a row on the pogo stick they could do. We had NO idea that we would be counting for 40 minutes up to 4,000 jumps. Bas even did it more than once. Holy cow! I can still here that stick, boing, boing, boing as it was the background noise much of the time. The rest of the pictures pretty much tell the story...including an Easter egg hunt and egg decorating for the kids since after-all, it was Easter weekend....
Despite the drizzle the last day, we decided to pack up and enjoy one last family ride through the trails, stopping for a moment to capture my favorite pic of the weekend. We are all dirty and tired, but the smiles say it all!
And of course, the obligatory soak after 3 days of dirt! That water was pretty disgusting...
