Sometimes there just a reason for a random blog to capture those daily moments that don't really have a story, yet each picture in and of itself tells its own story for that one particular moment in time. Here we go.
Mikayla has a style and sass to her that we marvel at each day. She definitely has opinions. It is not uncommon for her to change outfits several times a day, and I love to see what she chooses. The black and white outfit was for going out to dinner, and the tutu was just a "normal" day.
Oh Sax, you are a "special dog." The entire neighborhood knows you because you are an escape artist, and at least once a week and sometimes more you are "found." We often receive texts from friends saying "Sax is at the park." All the neighbors know you by name. We showed up at the pond the other day and the stranger says, "Hi Saxon!" Seriously? Cuz I've never seen you before in my life. You are like the outside cat we never wanted; you love to roam and explore, and if no one finds you, you make your way back home in your own time. Long gone are the days when we had a dog who would lay on the front lawn, waiting for our return. Cuddly you are not, but the kids don't give up on you. Despite these shortcomings, you will pose for a picture now and then, and then right after this you probably went to hide in the closet the rest of the day.
Thanks to Mimi and Papa, we continue to enjoy the lake more and more. We are so lucky and thankful to have this get-away only 30 minutes from our house. With the kids more independent, it is a much easier task to pack up and enjoy a quick trip. Recently, Mimi and Papa added a boat to the line-up, which is perfect for grabbing lunch across the lake. I suspect this summer there will be much more tubing and skiing than previously. Also, Scott traded in the old wave runner for a new one, a purchase he is still smiling about. (Sometimes I walk into the garage and just find him sitting on it, imagining his next jaunt on the rolling waves.) Last but not least, for my birthday, I got a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) that has yet to make its debut on Lake Conroe. We are ready for the summer and looking forward to playing!
The day of the boat launch, it was cold and windy, but that didn't stop Scott, Papa, and the kids from taking it for a spin. Mimi and I decided we would be happy to wait our turn for warmer weather. While the inaugural launch was ultimately successful, both Papa and Scott ended up in the lake with shoes on (yes, there is a story there and they almost made it on AFV) so they were pretty frozen. BUT, they were determined and had smiles on their faces, regardless.
And last (and perhaps least) we have entered the days of privacy and space issues, and the boys spent quite a bit of time on their signs. So glad they have the end of the hall where most guests in our house won't go. I love TJ's last sign: "Understand? Get me? Jee wiz?!?"
I thought it appropriate this time of year, with all the statewide controversial testing (currently called the STAAR test) to share some math the kids are working on. The math tile board is 2nd grade - the parents can go in on Friday's and check the kids' work. At times, the parents need the teacher's assistance. The other pic is a 3rd grade homework problem that Scott and I both tried to answer, and couldn't figure it out, and could have sworn there was no correct answer. This is a problem directly preparing them for the STAAR test. Do YOU know which rectangle has an area of 50 sq. units?
