So, I don't want to jinx this, but Luka seems to be enjoying his new bed.
I've become a bit educated in the process. Children typically fall into a very deep sleep for the first 3-4 hours, followed by light sleep, or dream sleep for several hours, and then again deep REM sleep just prior to waking. We definitely think the change in Luka's sleep patterns had to do with his potty training. Since potty training a month ago, he has consistently woken up hysterical between 11:30 and 12:30. What we know now is that he has to go to the bathroom, but he doesn't really know it, since he is in his deep sleep, and he never really even wakes up during the process. In fact, you have to convince him throughout the entire process to let you help him, and we've had our bathroom walls sprayed on more than one occasion at midnight, that is for sure.
If we can stick to last night's pattern, we'll be happy campers. Last night, he ONLY had is midnight potty waking, and then slept straight through until 6:30. Wow? you say. Well, let me tell you. For this sleep deprived mama, the only thing that might be better would be to enjoy a cup of leaded coffee before the kids wake up.
Hoping the new room works out for Luka and you all start getting more sleep! - Lisa
