TJ had practice this past week on Wednesday, and Luka had practice on Thursday. (All week, Luka was explaining how TJ would have practice first, and he would watch, and then the next day Luka would have practice, and TJ would watch him.) Their coaches are great compared to TJ's last year. (Not that it mattered, since he didn't seem to have a whole lot of interest in playing.) Luka's coach in particular is very in tune to the 3-yr old disposition, and he had the entire team of 3-yr olds' attention for 45 minutes, and they, including Luka, were very engaged. He just looked so tiny to be out their on the soccer field! But, he did a great job and was so proud of himself.
Saturday - TJ's game was at 9:30. TJ stayed on the field the whole game (last year he was frequently off the field and in the woods during the game,) and he even managed to kick the ball a few times. Certainly not a star, but he did have something to be proud of and he said he had fun, which was of course the most important. (He did refuse to wear socks to cover his shinguards.)
He played goalie at one point and managed to lose his shoe.
Luka thought he was all set to make his big debut.
He warmed up with Dad a bit, though admittedly he did struggle a bit.
He "said" the Pledge of Allegiance (which I'm quite certain he had never heard before).
And as it was time to get on the field, he broke down in tears and wouldn't step out of the fields until the game was over and it was time for his snack and juice! Poor little guy...I think he had a panic attack with all the papparazi parents and grandparents running up and down the sidelines and yelling real loud. That'd be enough to scare a little kid.
Later on the night, when he was asked about his soccer game, his unprompted response was "I didn't play. I was too scared, but I will twy again." That's all we will ask for!
