Memorial Day Weekend at the Lake

Memorial Day weekend proved once again to be a great time had by all in Harbor Town.  We headed up Friday night to get settled in.  Saturday was TJ's actual birthday, so he enjoyed Daddy's traditional pancake birthday breakfast in the morning before the Bonniwells and Carvers headed into town. 

For some reason, this year seemed a bit less chaotic than the previous year. Last Year's Drama  Perhaps it was a function of the kids being that much more self-sufficient, or perhaps it was a different set of expectations all around, but regardless, here are a few highlights:

The kids swam A LOT in the lake.  They really seemed to enjoy just putting on their life jackets and jumping off the end of the pier.  Luka kept his on most of the day.  One of the highlights for the kids was swimming to Bird Island.  For those of you familiar, it is not a short distance, and we adults still can't quite believe they made it (with adult supervision of course.)  Denise had to go pick them up after binoculars revealed some frantic adult had signaling, but the kids were proud as peaches upon their return...and tired at that!

The "Strip" as we call it...that is, the long strip of grass running the length of the townhouses, was just full of kids and parties.  All the adults kinda watched out for all the kids, shared docks, patios, and conversations.  It was a great community feeling, which we don't have at all in the Woodlands, so we ate it up!

On Sunday, the Histands joined the party...so 7 kids total now.  I am honestly not sure what we did all day, but it included a trip to the pool, riding bikes, a birthday party for Logan, and grilling, and a watermelon snack. 

The guys managed to find a few quiet moments to themselves, until we interrupted with the cameras.

We finished off the day with a walk to the beach at sunset.  The kids were tired, but dug down and took several jumps off the lake trampoline before they called it a night.

Sunday night, the adults had a great time on the Strip with the neighbors while the kids were sacked out.  First, we enjoyed a beautiful lighting storm that went on for about 45 minutes while we sat on the back on the boat eating some party mix.   Then, when the neighbors pulled out the karaoke machine, Scott proved to be quite the entertainer.  He was the talk of the Strip the next morning. 

Monday was more fun in the sun.  Another trip to the pool, and then the jet ski finally worked!  It's a Sea Doo, a.k.a. Sea Don't, and by the time the kids each had a round on it, it was time to wrap up the fun for the weekend.  Tuesday proved to be a hard day at work as I was quite exhausted, but it was well worth it!
