We are having a great time with Grandpa and Grandma to help celebrate Christmas for 2010. Although really, when it is 75 degrees, it really doesn't feel much like Christmas in the traditional sense. Plus, with me pretty much not leaving the house, it is definitely a bit slower paced.
Sunday we did get out for church, where TJ's class sang "Holly Jolly Christmas," and Luka's class sang "Jingle Bells" as the opening for the children's pageant, which was "Charlie Brown's Chrsitmas." Not traditional, for sure, but still a great message. Ok, so the kids pretty much just stood up there and had blank stares, but one of these days they will start singing, I'm sure of it!
TJ received a book of Christmas carols from a friend at school...what a great book! Scott made a fire in the backyard one night (before the warm front) and they all sang around singing through the whole book (while I layed on the couch watching Grey's anatomy.) The kids just love those Christmas songs!
Sunday, as a tradition, the boys helped Grandma make the Christmas morning cake for our "pretend" Christmas the next day. Not to be confused with the "real" Christmas when Santa comes in a few days, of course.
We've decided to forego any sort of traditional Christmas dinner, and so we ordered pizza, which the kids love more anyway! After pizza, the kids watched the movie "A Christmas Story" which was one of Scott's favorites growing up and a tradition to watch as well in the Schmucker household. The five of them also enjoyed a nice bike ride to Ridgeway park, where they road the roller coaster trail and hit the playground, and enjoyed the warm weather.
The next day, they headed for the Histand house where the kids were set loose on the land, and they self-entertain for hours. With the trampoline, swings, 4-wheeler and room to run, they never get bored. We often envision going out there when the boys are older and really wondering what sort of trouble they will end up getting into...
While they were all gone, and after work, I enjoyed a nice long relaxing bath and some self-pampering, and then lounging around again on the couch, my new BFF.
