In any case, we found a fantastic piano teacher, Ms. Chris who is part of a group of drummers and guitarist in a little studio in the Woodlands. Let's just say that it isn't a little old lady trying to teach him piano. He loves it! He loves going to his lesson, he loves his teacher, he loves practicing, and he was SO excited for his recital.
So, after just 3 months, he actually had a recital. He kept counting down the days. (Clearly, never having been to a recital, he didn't know what to expect, but that was beside the point.)
When we got there, the program stated that Luka was first out of about 50 students. Wow! Not much time to get nervous. There was a pretty big crowd at the Community Center, as you can imagine; parents and grandparents all crowded in to hear their own little angel play for about 2 minutes of fame. Lucky for us Luka was first, because Mikayla wasn't interested in a full blown concert that night.
In any case, Luka marched right up, sat down, and on cue belted out "Jingle Bells." It was pretty funny, because people started clapping after his 30 second song, and he had quite a surprised look on his face. The clapping ceased, and he started in on "O Christmas Tree." (About a 15 second song.) This time upon finishing, he turned with a grin to the audience and waited for them to start clapping. Luka finished up with "Up On the Housetop," his favorite, (which I think I have heard now about 112 times.) He stood up and took a bow, grinning ear to ear, and ran to get another cookie.
We are proud of Luka, but mostly excited that he has really seemed to find something that he enjoys so much, and he is really good at it too. It is so fulfilling to see his excitement and sense of accomplishment!
