Spring is in the Air

We've had a nice couple of days enjoying the outdoors...finally.  Spring is definitely around the corner.  Last Friday, I turned onto our street coming home from work, and a little private thrill went through me as I noticed the trees beginning bloom purple and white on our street.  Today, one week later, they are in full bloom, and soon will turn to green.  The air smells fresh, and the birds are chirping away in the morning.

Sunday we had a great day at the lake with the extended family.  After a picnic on the driveway amidst scooter riding and remote control driving, we enjoyed grilled salmon burgers on the patio.

Shortly thereafter, Cousin Jon graciously offered up his fishing skills and supplies to the kids, who had not yet had the opportunity to use their fishing poles received at Christmas.  They were thrilled to have worms on their poles, and didn't seem too terribly disappointed that they didn't catch a thing.  TJ found it amusing that they ate the worms.  Luka exercised an amazing attention span for a 3-yr old.  We'll build it up slowly...and perhaps next time we'll actually see some fish in the water and land a great catch!

This past Tuesday, I got the spring planting bug and spruced up the back patio with some fresh pots of flowers and cleared out all the gunk we lost in the freeze, just in time for our guests to arrive, the Kandel-Cisco family!  They are in the midst of a move to Indianapolis.  It seems rare these days that all 8 of us are together, but we pulled it off and enjoyed a warm night on our patio, pulling out the grill for the first time.  The kids enjoyed a baseball "game" in the driveway and other various activities while we all just appreciated the nice warm air and the daylight that seemed to linger.

It is such a good feeling to experience the new growth and activity that springtime provides!
