Luka's Shark 4th Birthday Party

Luka is 4! He wanted a shark party because sharks are so scary. In preparing for the party, we've taken some time to get know sharks up close and personal, and both boys can now name many of the sharks we've read about. Their first question always, however, is "Does the ____ shark eat people?"

We had a great day for a party at Shadowbend Park. We were so fortunate to actually have both sets of grandparents here to help celebrate. Grandma and Grandma Schmucker were on there way to help with an MDS project. (When he learned that they would be gone Sunday morning when he woke up he said, "Tomorrow morning when I wake up and come over to your room you're going to be gone and I'm going to miss you and be sad.") MiMi and PaPa had just arrived the day before at Lake Conroe for their annual stint in the south. Many other friends, family and classmates were there as well, of course.

Games we played included "Pin the Fin on the Shark," and a bean bag toss into a shark's mouth. The prizes were gummy sharks and sea creatures. We had little sharks on top of cupcakes for the birthday cake.

Luka received a new bike for his birthday. This dinosaur bike is just so little, it is amazing. We suspect that, for the most part, Luka learned to balance on his scooter over the summer, and he has pretty much just hopped on his bike and started riding. The first day he was a bit wobbly, the second day he was riding around the cul-de-sac and back to our house by himself, and the third day, he was learning to stop by himself. Now he just needs to learn to start on his own and we should be all set! (Thanks to MiMi and PaPa, we have never allowed our kids training wheels, and this is how Angie and I learned to ride as well at a young age.)

Here's a little video of the bike ride. Norah had to walk all the way down to watch, and then she had to try the little bike with no pedals. What a big girl!
